Hot Gyal or Comfort Queen

Shop Smart, Walk Happy

First things first: if you’re thinking about rocking your most comfortable pair of heels all day (6+ hours), think again. Even if you have cart or Truck access strutting in heels for an entire day is no joke. It's even less funny when you playing a two-day mas (Trinidad, Grenada, Saint Lucia). Comfort queens, start hunting down your flats of choice—boots, sneakers, etc. Comfort is key to your road experience, so find your happy place with the right footwear.

Pro Tip: Don't wear brand new sneakers, or you'll end up going home without toenails. Break them in at least a week before Carnival. If you have to wear new sneakers, cut your toenails, choose a half size bigger, wear bandaids on the back of your heels, and don’t forget the socks—below the ankle, because ankle socks are not cool 🙃.

Get Those Gel Soles

Invest in some gel soles for extra cushioning. Trust me, your feet will thank you. And while you're at it, make sure your sneakers have good arch support. Comfort is the name of the game here, and gel soles can make a world of difference.

Hot Gyals, Listen Up!

For my hot gyals out there who live by the mantra "beauty is pain" or are genuinely comfortable in heels, here’s some advice. Heeled shoes with block-shaped heels are better for the road, considering the uneven surfaces. Trinidad has potholes, no surprise there, this is the Caribbean. A block heel provides better balance and overall comfort. Avoid closed-toe heeled boots; peep-toe booties are a bit more comfortable. And remember leather or transparent plastic in the heat is not your friend.

Pro Tip: A heel with a platform at the front will protect your feet from the road's impact. This added layer of protection will keep you chipping down the road with ease.

Mix It Up

If have access to a cart, or live along the carnival route, you can start the day as a hot gyal in your heels and switch to flats or sneakers halfway through. This way, you get the best of both worlds without sacrificing style or comfort. It’s the perfect, perfect, perfect option.

Either Way, You're a Queen

Most importantly, remember to have the time of your life on both days. Whether you’re in heels or flats, your comfort and enjoyment are what matter most.

So, queens, get those feet ready for Trinidad Carnival 2025 and let’s make it a memorable one! 💃🏽👑
