Serena’s Trinidad Carnival 2025 Journey: An Inspiration for All Masqueraders

Being a Carnival enthusiast myself, I understand how the excitement of the road, the energy of the crowd, and the pure joy of Carnival can motivate you to bring out your best self. Serena's journey is a great example of this transformation. I first met Serena at Bliss 2024 distribution in Trinidad, and her progress since then has been truly inspiring. This year, she demonstrated that with hard work and the right mindset you can achieve your 'Hart's' desire when she modelled for Harts at the 2025 Tribe band launch in Trinidad. Trinidad Carnival 2025 will run from February 26 to March 5, with the Road March on March 5th.

Fitness and Journey

Serena has been on an incredible fitness and weight loss journey. When asked about what inspired her to start, she shared, “I genuinely just felt this need to change. It was almost as if a light had sparked inside of me telling me it’s time to be the best me I could possibly be. Coincidentally, my best friend at the time had completed a personal trainer course and she wanted someone to test it on, so I decided to go to the gym with her and, well, the rest is history. At that time as well, I had also just broken up with my long-term boyfriend, and over COVID, I gained a lot of weight and really started to dislike my body and the road I was on. It’s been about a year since I started, and I don’t regret a thing. I love who I am becoming and my confidence has never been higher."

Modeling for Harts

Modeling for Harts at the Tribe band launch has always been a dream for Serena. She describes the experience with excitement: “Doing band launch has always been a dream of mine. Actually, to say it was a dream is an understatement. Ever since my first launch experience in 2016, I would get chills when the girls came out and I knew I wanted to be on that stage one year. For those who don’t know, I work in the TRIBE company, specifically with BLISS Carnival, and I’m on the Harts committee. That day, I came early, worked and prepared all the models, and then it was my turn to get hair and makeup done. Strangely enough, I was not nervous as excitement grabbed hold of me and I knew my Harts family had my back no matter what.”

Carnival Connection

Carnival has always been a part of Serena’s life. She reflects on her connection to Carnival: “Carnival has always been a part of me as I grew up in Minshall Mas Camp. My mom worked there and from the time I was a baby, I was in that camp. I believe that is where my passion for Carnival and for people came from. Working in the TRIBE group of bands was something I always wanted to do, and I know my passion for Carnival has to do with my growing up in a Mas camp. Working in the Carnival industry definitely has its ups and downs as at certain times it can get really hectic, but it is definitely worth it because of the people you meet and the faces you get to make smile. I really want to visit every Carnival in the world, so Jamaica was an AMAZING start. I had the best time of my life with GenXS in Jamaica and am already looking to book the next Carnival.”

Beauty and Glam

Looking and feeling your best on the road is essential, and Serena understands the importance of working with professionals who prioritize Carnival glam. “You definitely want to look pretty on the road or stage, and that is exaggerated through hair and makeup. If you don’t feel your best on the outside, it will show through your energy and the vibes you give off. I love dressing up and putting on a full glam, so it’s important to have strong women in the industry that prioritize you and how you feel. Ones who have the same goal as you… to ‘doll’ you up to make you rock that stage!”

Advice to Aspiring Carnivalistas

Serena’s journey is a testament to dedication and perseverance. Her advice to other women on their fitness journey or aspiring models is inspiring: “My advice would be to keep pushing and working on your dreams. If you have a goal, just think about how you can get it and start from there. It could take days, months, or even years, but once you work towards it, you will achieve it. Try your hardest to block out the outside world. People will tell you what they think, what is right, and what is wrong. Granted, sometimes they are correct, it can be overwhelming. I have found that doing things my way and being healthy and happy is what mattered above all else.”
